cost categories in D365 F&O

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding cost categories in D365 FO. I’ve assigned a resource capability to a route operation, and the operation itself has "Laborer" as both the Run and Setup cost categories.

The resources within the capability include machines with different cost categories — for example, one of them uses "Operator" for both Run and Setup. I understand that during batch order estimation, the system uses the cost categories defined at the operation level, since the specific resource hasn’t been selected yet.

However, when I create a route journal, the system assigns a specific resource (e.g., PACKOP3), and I noticed that:

  • The Setup category is inherited from the resource (Operator)
  • The Run category remains as defined in the operation (Laborer)

Is this behavior standard in D365 FO, or is it influenced by a specific configuration?

I’ve attached a screenshot showing this behavior, where the Setup category comes from the resource and the Run category from the operation.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

    Hi,

    Good Day.

I believe this is the standard behavior of D365FO.

If the expectation is to have cost categories fetched from resources then at operation level keep them blank and try.

    Thank you,
    Vandan
