List of Privileges in Dynamics 365 F&O

Dear Dynamics Community:

I have 2 questions:

a.  I would like to confirm my understanding that ROLES and DUTIES are just user-defined names/contextual names  which do not give permission to access anything in the system but they are just containers of Privileges.  That aside from OOB roles/duties, I can create new role name and duty name that I like but I cannot create new privileges.    Please confirm.

b.  I would like to know how to export all the Privileges in Dynamics 365 so I can easily choose and assign to the new roles & duties that I will be creating.

Thanks,

Reign

    A) Correct

    B) There should be a data entity for that. I don't have a system at hand right now, but look for all data entities where the entity name contains "privilege" and you should find it.

    Hi Reign,

Yes, the level is user-role-Duties-privileges. If a role is not assigned Duties or privileges, they will not have any permissions.

    For export,you can read this:alexdmeyer.com/.../

    Hi Reign,

    1. Yes, that is correct Roles and duties are container/grouping of privileges. Privilege gives you access to different UI elements.

Creation of privilege is possible from UI.

Go to -> System administrator ->  Secutity -> Security configuration-> then go to Privilege and create new.

    You should check https://alexdmeyer.com/2018/07/09/setting-up-security-in-dynamics-365-for-finance-and-operations-part-i-from-the-user-interface/

But best practice is for any custom code, the developer should create privilege in AOT. The assignment of these privileges to Duties/Roles can be done from UI.

For all privileges, there are reports from UI in System administration -> Inquiries -> Security -> there are 4 reports which you can run.

If you have access to a development environment or you can ask your developer to export all the security objects details from Visual Studio.

This will export an excel file with all the details related to security in D 365.

for Security diagnostic, you should check
