RE: How do you adjust/transfer the data inside Dimensions to another new dimensions in Navision 2018?
Hi Josh - If it's a global dimension, there will be a button to change this in the GL Setup, once you follow the steps, to the best of my understanding all your entries sitting with the OLD Dimension value will get converted to the NEW Dimension value. This process can take some time, depending on the size. Please try changing the global dimension once and see if all old is migrated to new. I'd suggest take a fresh Production backup and try it there so you can get a fair idea of the time IRL. Also, this should be done when no users are signed in, except you

Regarding the second point you raised - To be honest, the question I ask to the company's CFO/Chief Accountant is that "Under what heads would you like to see your expenses & income broken down into at every ME/YE?" : To this they answer that they would want to categorize under cost centers & departments. So we define multiple values under these 2 dimension codes and the user tags them as appropriate in each transaction. However I advise customers to keep their dimension master to only the values they think will be useful now or in future, else having 10 dimension will defeat the purpose & cause analysis-paralysis. Generally the business owners or stakeholders have a fair idea on how they want to scale their business in the next 3 years, so they can be the decision makers along with the CFO/Chief Accountant too. This may take some brainstorming from these people, but only they will be able to advise better (although its vague for now)
If you think that the current dimensions are very vague and can limit scaling capabilities in future, you can ask your CFO/Chief Accountant to provide you the bifurcations into B2B & B2C, then evaluate how they can be used as dimensions
I'd also suggest show them the dimensions used in Microsoft's Default company (CRONUS) if you have access to it so they can get some real time references. Once you have something with you regarding dimensions, feel free to ask in this forum, we'll be happy to assist on a case by case basis
