% Columns in Financial Statements

Hello,  I'm relatively new to Business Central and trying to set up our P&L with a column for "% of Sales"  The formula I've been trying to use is C1/40100 (where 40100 is the row # for total sales).  BC appears to be dividing the amount in column 1 by 4,010,000 rather than looking to row 40100.  Anyone have experience here and know where I'm going sideways?
I have the same question (0)

You need to add 40100 as a row first, then calculate it in another row, for example,

In addition, column C2 can be hidden.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

    Hi

You're on the right track conceptually, but the issue lies in how BC interprets your formula. When you enter C1/40100, the system reads 40100 as a literal number, not a reference to a row. That’s why it’s dividing by 4,010,000 instead of using the value from row 40100.

    Here’s how to fix it:

    1. Set the Base Row for Percent

    • Go to the Row Definition and insert a line above the rows you want to calculate percentages for
    • In the Totaling Type, select Set Base for Percent
    • In the Totaling field, enter the row number that represents your total sales (e.g., 40100)
    • This tells BC which row to use as the denominator for percentage calculations

    2. Define the Percentage Column

    • In the Column Definition, create a new column
    • Set Column Type to Formula
    • In the Formula field, enter the column number followed by % (e.g., C1%)
    • This tells BC to calculate the percentage of the base row you set earlier

    3. Example Setup

    • Row 40100 = Total Sales
    • Row 40200 = Marketing Expense
    • Row 40300 = Admin Expense
    • Insert a line above 40200 and set base for percent = 40100
    • In Column Definition, create a column with formula C1%
    • Result: Each row below will show % of total sales
