Is there a way I can map the invoices from the item level automatically. I have a dimension mapped on the item level and would like it to automatically map the invoice as well as the payment once applied to the invoice.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,

you can automatically map dimensions from the item level to sales invoices by setting default dimensions on the item card, which then flow into transactions like invoices.

To ensure consistency, use the "Value Posting" setting (e.g., "Code Mandatory") to enforce dimension usage.

    Hello,

Yes, in Business Central, if you’ve mapped a dimension at the item level, it can automatically flow to the sales invoice during posting, provided that dimension is included in the item’s default dimension setup. Ensure that dimension is set as code mandatory or same code under value posting.

In Business Central, there is one feature called as "Default Dimension". Your scenario can be handled from there.

Yes, dimensions set on the Item Card will automatically flow to sales invoices. However, dimensions do not automatically carry over to payments—you'll need to handle that manually or use a customization.

    Hi, good day

You might be able to get closer to what you're asking for by properly configuring your default dimension mapping rules and ensuring they are propagated during the posting process.

    Hi

Yes, BC supports automatic dimension mapping from the Item level to invoices and payments, but it depends on how your Default Dimension Priorities and Value Posting settings are configured.

Here’s how to ensure dimensions flow correctly:

    1. Assign Default Dimensions to Items

    • Go to the Item Card
    • Use the Dimensions action to assign default dimensions (e.g., BRAND, CHANNEL)
    • Set Value Posting to Same Code or Code Mandatory to enforce consistency

    2. Configure Default Dimension Priorities

    • Navigate to Default Dimension Priorities
    • Ensure Item is ranked higher than other sources like Customer or Vendor
    • This ensures that when an invoice is created, the dimension from the item overrides others

    3. Enable Automatic Dimension Copying

    • When you post a Sales or Purchase Invoice, BC copies dimensions from the item to the document lines
    • These dimensions then flow to the G/L entries and Customer/Vendor Ledger Entries

    4. Payment Application Behavior

    • When you apply a payment to an invoice, BC inherits dimensions from the original invoice
    • This ensures that the payment entry reflects the same BRAND and CHANNEL dimensions

I am able to get this work if I enter in a sales invoice directly.  However if I have a customer subscription contract with a non-inventory line item and I create a contract invoice (which creates a sales invoice) it goes back to defaulting the dimensions from the customer instead of the item.

Does anyone have any suggestions for this issue?

    Thanks!
