Changes to description field in IV00101

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We have to change the wording in a our description field for about 2000 of our products via sql.  If we change the description via a script on IV00101, will any other tables that has the description field need to be change?

You could also use the Change Item Description tool in the PSTL collection.

    Kind regards,

To add to what Leslie said - this will also not update any unposted transactions that have already been saved. So if there are 2000 quotes out there that may be turned into orders and then invoices, you might need to do the same update on the item descriptions in the SOP10200 table.

Just a note that it won't change the description on any transactions that have already been posted - like SOP and POP (or invoicing) transactioins.

I would agree with Frank, that if it affects the Vendor that would be the only other place to address.

All the places that the Item Description is displayed and presented on reports look back at the IV00101 table - and the IV00103 when showing the Vendor name for the item.

So, unless you have any 3rd parties that store the data outside of the IV00101 you should be pretty well ready to go.

It's not a vendor description on the item card so I don't think this table needs to be changed

If you need to change Item Vendor Description, you'll need to hit IV00103 as well.
