Lock position of field

(0) ShareShare

I have to fields Next to eachother. One of the fields (a) are hidden as default, but is visible based on a business rule. The problem is when the a is hidden the Field Next to it (b) moves to the left and takes field A's place. Is it possible to lock the position of field B so that when field A is hidden B stays in the same Place?

    Hi Henrik,

Instead, you dont want to just make field a as disable rather than hide it to occupy the place for field a?

I'm not sure I understood, but I would like the space field a occupies to be blank when it is hidden. I do not want any of the surrounding Fields to move when a is hidden.

    Hi Henrik,

When you make the field is hidden, then the other fields will occupy and take the hidden field position. It is by design to prevent messed position and blank space.

Eventhough you use JavaScript, not Business Rules.

There is nothing to do to modify using Out of the box.

If you really want to keep the position and prevent field B take the field A's position. And the position is so important. Then, you just show the field A, but make it as locked or read only.

    Thank you.

OK. Thank you. I tried making it locked, but that didn't seem to change anything. What exactly does the Lock function do?

    Hi Henrik,

Lock, I mean lock in the Business Rules, means make it field read only or disable, not lock the field in the CRM Form edit. I tried that as well and not worked.

I mean, why you dong make that field not hidden, just show it but disable it.

so that you can keep the position, and since the field is read only then the users cannot input anything. So, if hidden does not help for positioning that you are looking for, and the position is so important for you, so the workaround I can suggest is to make that field read only, not hide it.

The only way around this would be to ensure the field that doesn't want to move is first, otherwise use multi tab and sections to control the visual elements. You didn't mention which CRM version you're on. But we've done this trick with 4 and 11, not sure what you can get away with on 13.

    OK. I'll try that. Thanks!
