Crystal Reports Viewer Only

So we have encountered a situation where we have a client that has only the Crystal Reports Viewer portion of the software installed and we are wondering how we might be able to open the RPT files ?

We have a version of Crystal that we know is very old on the client site and we have a more current Crystal Professional CD.  Our challenge is we are not sure if we can even find the hardware that our Crystal will even run in.

Any one any suggestions.

    Hi Beat,

Sorry, I am not familiar with security settings in Crystal Enterprise. With GP Reports Viewer you don't need any Crystal licensing for the end users, so I've not had a reason to learn that. :)

    Victoria,

We do not use Crystal Enterprise IX in our company, but a sister corp. from our group does.. Now they asked me to assign the permission that one HR user had (who's leaving by Friday) to another user and make sure that she can access all the same reports.. How can this be done ? Doesn't CR IX use AD integration ?  Both user belong to the same AD security roles..

    Bill,

There is either a 3rd party product (like Accountable's Forms Printer) involved or custom code. It's not simply a print driver selection, it would have to be a lot more complicated to pass in all the data to Crystal.

If you're not seeing a 3rd party product, it has to be custom code that someone wrote for the client.

Thanks Victoria, we do have a copy of the Crystal IX in our vault somewhere, just a matter now of finding it.

    Question for you.

Client is printing Payable Cheques from GP and the output is being directed to the Crystal Report file and that is where the 'face of the cheque' is being generated.  In the background you can see that the GP system is also generating a normal Payables Vendor Cheque - no modifications appear.

Wondering where to look to find the point where the output is being redirected to Crystal?  Is it a print driver selection or is there code that is added to GP to make that happen.

    Thanks for the input.

    RE: Crystal Reports Viewer Only

    Hi Bill,

To open/edit the RPT files you will need a version of the Crystal Reports application installed.

If this is just a one time thing, I believe you can download a trial: go.sap.com/.../crystal-reports.html

If this is an ongoing need, a license of Crystal Reports retails for $495 (US).

    Hope that helps.
