Mass Upload of Released Products in Inventory Management

Hi Everyone, new to the forum but have been running Dynamics F&O for about two years now in a Supply Chain/Asset Management Capacity.

I need to find a way to "Mass Upload' via Excel a list of "Released Products" into our inventory. I see the option on the top right where you can work on a live sheet in excel and just plug in the fields you want to add.

However, the excel sheet formats that I have listed do not have the required fields to add the items I need into our inventory. How would I go about creating a new Excel sheet that will automatically upload the information into the screen I am working on?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Hi Cesar, If the fields are missing then you need to extend data entity and add those fields in the data entity. Adding new columns in excel will not work. You will need a Developer to add fields from visual studio.

Thank you, Mohit. Are there any other options available to create new items quickly from an Excel spreadsheet? In my old ERP (Epicor) we were able to copy+paste an excel sheet into the screen as long as the columns and fields matched exactly.

To my knowledge, in D365 F&O, there isn't a quick way to add field directly without adding in related Data Entity.

    Hi Cesar,

I would suggest using the data migration framework (Data management workspace) over the excel add-in, if you have a large amount to upload. The excel add-in in my experience, is prone to errors and connection drops because it's using oData and can only process a limited amount of records at a time.

Further to that, to upload a complete released product, you often have to upload data to several different data entities, depending on how you are set up, e.g. for some of the out of box entities we used and in our case, we also had some created that are custom, as data entities weren't available for areas that we needed to upload to at the time

    Product specific unit conversions

    Product category assignments

    Product attribute values

    Released products V3

    Item - Barcode

    Physical dimension details by product

Thanks for the heads up, I'm thinking of getting with our programming team and creating a Power App to input item numbers and tie into assets at the same time with a sort of custom made "wizard". Our D365 system is very tailored for what we do here at Atlantic Sapphire and it's not user friendly to say the least.

Hopefully I can speed up my workflow a little bit at least. I have to add approximately 100 new items and tie into their respective assets and I just can't justify how convoluted of a process this is.
