Which Navision version is better for new Subscription or new license for new Customer?

Hello,

I have a query on Microsoft Navision's new subscription or new license. Which version is better for mid-range business groups? Already, we used Microsoft Navision 2009.

We choose 02 Version in Microsoft Navision Dynamics

1. Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2018

2. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Center (On-Premises)

Please suggest the present scenario on this 02 version. If I want to buy NAV 2018 and later can we migrate the 365 Business Center?

I have the same question (0)

naturally the latest version could be perceived as "better" on the face things. I have recently had a dealing with a client on this type of topic. The larger question is how much time/effort will it take to convert a 2009 to a 2018 or beyond? If you're making it as far as 2018 then the extra push to BC is probably worth it. Especially given that the level of investment in the first place won't be a small number.

On premise wise that depends on the business and database usage. If you are doing a system review this could be the chance to ditch on premise with SaaS. This is an attractive proposition for businesses that do not want to maintain servers or pay a further fee for a managed private cloud.

I'd suggest liaising with a Microsoft partner so you can understand this topic at a detailed level

You cannot buy NAV 2018, so your options are to migrate to Business Central v14 (Objects), Business Central v18 (On-Premise) or Business Central v18 (Cloud).

The option to convert to Business Central v14 (Objects) will expire at the end of this month, after that you will only have the option of the Extension based version of Business Central (On-Prem or Cloud).  I encourage our clients to make the jump to the Extension version rather than upgrading twice (objects, then extension).

Finally, you should strongly consider the Cloud option as it will be the last upgrade you have to do.  Microsoft rolls the new features into the product every month.  Given the current "Bridge to the Cloud" license promo, there is no better time to make the move.

Reach out to your NAV partner of record for more information.

Thank you so much @Ben for your valuable reply. Can you describe to me a little bit, why I can't buy NAV 2018? I know that the NAV 2018 Mainstream Support End is January 2023.

NAV 2018 selling process is closed??

Partners can no longer downgrade a license to NAV 2018.  When you convert from 2009, the license will become Business Central v18.  We currently can downgrade the license to BC v14, but that option expires at the end of the month.  Then you'll only be able to downgrade to two versions off the current release, which is currently BC18.

Essentially you have two options, a traditional Object based upgrade to BCv14 or a restart on BCv18.  I would push for the v18 every time.

All that being said, you can convert your license without upgrading right away.  The risk is you'll need to add a User or make an object addition to your current license, which will become locked 180 days after converting the license.  The only reason to do this would be to make sure you have a BCv14 license available for an object based upgrade some time in the future.

I would not recommend this to anyone, we had a client stall an upgrade after conversion of the license and it has been painful at times.
