Use manufacturer's batch number for inventory tracking in D365 SCM for pharmaceuticals

How can you handle pharmaceuticals in D365? I need to set up D365 for pharmaceuticals and tracking the original manufacturer's lot/batch number is essential. I don't want it as the supplier batch number using supplier registration on the update line > registration function. I want it as the primary batch number in D365 when receiving pharmaceuticals without having to create it beforehand. It needs to capture the manufacturer's batch number as the primary batch number because that is how pharmaceutical governance work. You don't use a preconfigured batch number and then just link it as the supplier batch number. It needs to replace the primary batch number at receipting. Can someone please explain to me how this is possible through configuration? Surely Microsoft did not design a system where you can't track the Manufacturer's batch number as the primary batch number. This is not only essential in pharmaceuticals but all process manufacturing and supply chain. So, if Microsoft did not design this to be possible you cannot use D365 SCM for any process manufacturing goods. And surely that is not the case. Please can someone who actually knows how the system works explain to me how you do this. Because it is not through supplier registration on the update line > registration function and normal batch tracking in D365 SCM. Please assist because I can't find the solution anywhere.

    Hi,

Yes, it is possible to receive the items with vendor batch as the main batch. For this try using the mobile app for receiving with advance warehouse. Using mobile app, you can easily scan the incoming goods with barcoded vendor supplies and system will update the vendor batch as the main batch and will also update the master all at the time of mobile device receiving.

    One scan does all.

See below the flow of receiving in mobile device.

From my experience pharma and process manufacturing implementations works at best when implemented with advance warehousing mobile device solutions to boost max productivity and speed.

    Hi,

In addition to the reply from Sagar, you can check for ISV solutions supporting Life Science processes. In case you only need to track the batch number from the manufacturer, then this is possible using the standard. On the Tracking number groups, you can create one for manual assignments.

Yes I found out the hard way that you cannot implement pharma with basic/standard warehousing processes. It needs advanced warehousing.

I don't know what you mean exactly by 'pharma' (i.e. which process you think don't work), but you can definitely use Batch (and manually assigned Batch numbers) in basic/standard warehousing (inventory module).

Yes you can use batch tracking but then you need to either use internal batch numbers or create the batch nrs manually before receipting which is not pharmaceutical supply chain compliant.
