How can I configure RMS to work with UAC enabled on Windows 7?

I have not been successful with getting RMS to run as a standard user in a Windows 7 environment with UAC turned on.

As an administrator I installed RMS Store Operations on a fresh Windows 7 environment.  I used SO Administrator to configure RMS, enabled read/write access for all users to the Store Operations registry keys, and set Run this application as an administrator for all users on the Compatibility tab of the Store Operations application file properties as many contributors have suggested.  I verified operation of the POS application as an administrator.

As a standard user, the Store Operations desktop icons have a UAC shield overlay.  Somehow, even before the application has run as a standard user, UAC has already decided that RMS will need administrator credentials to run.

How can I configure RMS to run as a standard user with UAC enabled?

I did notice that the coding certificate used to sign the Store Operations applications has expired.  Is this what UAC thinks RMS is suspect and requires administrative privilege to run?

Thanks for any insight you have.

Bill

Just run it as adminsitrator.  Otherwise you will have problems.

I would like to know this as well. I've tried everything that you have tried. We have some users who have RMS installed just to run reports, versus the actual retail stations where it really doesn't matter. We don't let users run as administrators, so this is holding us back a little.  Good find on the coding cert - someone at Microsoft Dynamics needs to address this issue.

    Bill,

Look at any of the SO*.exe.manifest files and they are set to require Admin privledges.

We've been just renaming the files as SO*.exe.manifest.old and Vista/Win7 ignores them.

Just make sure that you give access to the registry entires as I think that's why RMS manifest files are set to Admin rights in the first place.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Retail Management System

    OR if 64 bit

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Retail Management System

Does UAC have to be enabled? as i have experienced that UAC just causes too many problems then what it is worth.

Disable UAC and RMS will work with no problems.
