Account format change using PSTL

Hi, I am confused. I have an account structure like 1-1-123456789-12345 which I am trying to change to 1234-100. I have changed the account format table (SY00300 in co. database) to accommodate the length to 4 and 3 for these 2 segments (for the new structure). When I validate the accounts and look at the TACHANGE table what I am getting it is this 1-1 for the first 2 segments. Am I doing something wrong or missing something. Though, I looked at the Dynamics..SY00302 and it is still set to length of 1 for old first 2 segments.

My format looks like the following -

1-1-123456789-12345        1234-100-         -

    Hi,

I would recommend to do this using PSTL and not modifying table directly.

    Hi Satu -

I don't believe the PSTL will accomplish what you're trying to do because you attempting to change the structure of the account framework which is set during the installation of the Dynamics database.

What is the max account length for your first two segments?   Do you have enough padding to expand them to the size you want?

If you don't have enough padding built into your segments to expand the length of the first two segments, then you'll need to look at Corporate Renaissance Group's Re-Formatter which will help you reformat your account framework the way you want.  Once you've adjusted the framework then you should be able to use the PSTL to modify the accounts accordingly.

    Hopefully this information helps you!

You may need Reformatter from www.crgroup.com to complete this task. It depends on what the default segment structure and sizes are for each segment.

I am using PSTL, yes. I think padding can be created by modifying the SY00300 table in the database which I have done. I changed the account format to be XXXX-XXX-123456789-12345 so that it can accommodate my changed structure at least. I can not change the structure at Dynamics level because there are other companies as well and I am working in the test environment. Also, the whole purpose of account combiner and modifier is to change the account format, so I would not be able to digest the fact that it is not possible. There has to be a way to accomplish this task but I think I am missing something in here.

Babu, I am using PSTL. I do not think we can reconstruct the chart of account other than using the PSTL or any other 3rd party product. It can not be done at table level given the different modules of Dynamics GP and the complexity.

    Hi Kumar,

PSTL will work perfectly alright for your need, I have done this using the same.  Why you wanted to directly on table, after doing the changes using PSTL you have to run financial reconciliation.

    Satu -

I think you're asking for trouble trying to change the account structure and framework through the tables.   Can you post a screen shot of your Account Format screen?

I have to agree with Sean Babu on this one - when you go direct to the tables and by-pass the application you are looking for trouble.

The Combiner and Modifier would work for you if your ORIGINAL format when Dynamics was first created had provided the requested space.  If you had create the format at that time as XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX and sitll only used 1 character per segment - then today you could use the Modifier and Combiner since the database structure would allow for it, without attempting to modify the tables - one at a time, manually.

Hope this helps you understand that while it may not work for you today, it could work for you if the conditions were correct.

    Hi Sat,

I agree that you cannot change the account framework with the PSTL. Modifying the SY00300 table in the company database and the two system database tables will not get you there. More tables use the account format than the SY00300. For instance, the GL00100 is dependent on the account framework. The only way you can change this with confidence is to use the Reformatter tool from Corporate Renaissance Group.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
