I had a client asking about the Actual Ship Date on the SOP Header and I saw something I never noticed before. That field is dim and there is no way to get to it. So my first question is why is it dim and the second question is how does it get a value? I will check to see if they are licensed for modifier so I can on access to that field. There is a matching Actual Ship Date on each line on the order and that is accessible. They want this date to print on the invoices and they are already using the Requested Ship Date for something else.

Leslie, this would make sense. They have no third party products nor do they need one. The items they ship are accompanied by service fees for installation. There may be multiple items shipped in the previous days and then when they are ready to invoice they want to set a date and have it appears on the invoice. They are already using the requested ship date field so that leaves the actual ship date field.

The customer doesn't really want the 'actual' ship date, but rather they want the ship date to be the same as the requested ship date regardless of when the product was shipped?

Would your button then update the field in the SOP Header? Instead of a button, why not just open the field for data entry? It would still change if one of the line items changed, but then they could more easily set the date. You would need to go into modifier and make it editable. It's Auto-Save property is true, so it will update the table. If you change the line, it will still overwrite the header.

I did not realize you could change a line item and it would automatically change the header, wow, I wonder what the point in doing that might be. The date in the header is just the date of the most recently changed line item, interesting.

Even if they aren't licensed for Modifier, most everyone has the Customization Site License so that you could build the customization and they could import the package file.

What about the idea that I give them a button to update the actual ship date to the requested ship date? They could click the button and then if they want the requested ship date to be some other date, just change it. As long as they do not click the button the two will have different dates.

The actual ship date is also used by some of the Warehouse Management Systems like Accellos Collect. When the items on the sales order are scanned to confirm shipping (like in the SOP Fulfillment Order Workflow system Leslie mentioned above) the shipping system inserts the date shipped.

This field should NOT be opened for manual data entry. If the user needs to know actual shipped date, switch them to fulfillment orders or an automated WMS system.

Hi Richard,

The Actual Ship Date field is used with Workflow. - Pick, Pack and Ship. It's the 'Ship'.

We have done a customization like your requirement. One of customer wants Requested Ship Date should be same as invoice date. If they change the requested ship date from line, the invoice date should be automatically changed to requested date. In header section also, they wants same functionality. For this case, we have created a Dexterity customization to achieve the same.

That would be a problem for these folks. Apparently they ship during the previous week then they invoice on Monday. So goods could go out on any day that week and they want the ship date to be the invoice date. I know this make no sense but the customer is always right.

Hi Richard,

As I see, The Actual Ship Date on the header is nothing but the 'Actual Ship Date' entered for a new SOP line. If you change the Line date with a new value, the Header date too gets updated with the same value.This value is saved into table SOP_Header_WORK .
