GP / FRx migration and upgrade

I've successfully migrated from GP9 to the latest GP10 FP1 SP4 to a new server with a new name using the document ID 878449. Can someone point me to a document that explains how to migrate and upgrade FRx as well? We are currently on 6.7.8069 which equates to SP8. If no document is available, a brief bulleted list of steps to take to move FRx over to our new GP10 install would be appreciated! Thanks!

    Hi Cameron,
I don't think you need to do anything special with FRX except re-enter your new FRX serial and authorization keys registered for GP10.  In addition, you can bring your FRX installation up-to-date; however, watch out for SP11.  I don't know what systems you're running but SP11 couldn't run after we upgrade from SP10 to SP11 on our system (Windows 2003 SP1, GP10).  It crashed everytime we tried to load it. According to microsoft.com KB, when upgrading from SP10 to SP11, the Windows registry didn't get upgraded from 10 to 11.

Hope this helps and others may clarify the error.

Thank you for the information.  Our server is 2008 R2.  Do you know if I can just copy the old FRx folder over and then run the service pack on it?  I think I'm going to stick with SP9 for now.

    Thanks!

I don't know what type of client setup, ie fat- or thin- client you have; however, I believe, in either case, the old FRX config will not work with the new server name.  The network path of the io_data and sysdata folders are no longer valid.

    Hi Cameron,

If FRx files (like those located in the Sysdata folder) are moved to a new server, there are two main files/paths to update:  1) the frx32.cfg file on the local c drive; 2) the frxsys32.mdb file located in the shared sysdata folder.  Some info in the frxsys32.mdb file which are referenced are directories found in the FRx Company | Information and Specification Sets windows.   There is a FRx Data Folder Migration Wizard that could be used: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/966890 and you may search your FRx directories for this folder that has more help files and .exe to assist, or feel free to email me with other questions.

Thank you for the information Derek - and the email offer!  I'm feeling a bit more confident in the migration now.

    Hi Cameron,

Be careful when trying to install FRx 6.7 on Server 2008 R2... which is certainly 64bit. Check your requirements for FRx, but this it probably not supported.

    Thanks Beat,

I think you're right and we will end up running from the client only.

    Thanks again.
