Finishing a make to order production order - fulfilling a Sales Order

Advanced Warehousing turned on. Upon a production order finishing in the manufacturing module for a Make to order item, I simply ended up using a put away to put the item back into stock. There was no fulfilment of the Sales Order at that point. I expected the sales order to have maybe a warehouse shipment generated or a pick. Do I manually have to go into the sales order and create a pick for this production order item now - is that the process? I double checked the item card and yes it is definitely a make to order item.
I have the same question (0)

    Hello,
This is standard behavior in Business Central with Advanced Warehousing: even for Make-to-Order items, finishing a production order does not automatically fulfill the Sales Order. The finished item is simply put away into inventory, and fulfillment remains a separate warehouse process. You must manually continue by creating a warehouse pick and shipment from the Sales Order (or Warehouse Shipment). This separation is by design to keep warehouse control explicit—production completion never auto-creates picks or shipments.

    Hi,

Yes, you have to Manually create Pick and Warehouse shipment for the Sales Order.
This is because Make to Order policy only helps in linking the Production order with Sales order and planning, it is not for warehouse handling. Warehouse handling for Output and Sales are separate and not linked process.

Even though you have produced an item which is make to order may be it is shipped later or moved to store before it is shipped.

So yes this you need to do manually. But you can do some customization to achieve this auto.

    Regards,
    Dhiren.

    Hi,

When Advanced Warehousing is enabled, finishing a make-to-order production order only puts the item into inventory via a put-away, it does not automatically generate a warehouse shipment or pick for the related sales order.

You must manually create a warehouse shipment or pick from the sales order to fulfill it. This is standard behavior because production finishing and warehouse shipment are separate processes in BC Advanced Warehousing.

So yes, the normal process is:

    1. Finish the production order and put away the item.
    2. Manually create and post a warehouse shipment or pick linked to the sales order for fulfillment.

This separation allows warehouse control over order picking and shipping.
