Linking sales orders and purchase orders via data entity import

Hi all,

On a sales order header you have a button to create a new purchase order (see my screenshot) For datamigration purposes I need to replicate this behaviour via data management imports, but I don't know how to do that.

On the data entities for purchase orders and purchase order lines I can't find any fields that reference a sales order and vice versa.

Any thoughts on how to do this?

    Hi Mica,

The data entities are not supporting the direct delivery feature out of the box. This will require a customization. You can e.g. think of an action that creates a PO from a created SO. You can read more about OData actions on my blog: Let your Operations Flow – Part 8 - Dynamicspedia

    Hi

The relationship of the reference is stored in separate tables and are not exposed to sales and purchase export/import entity.

You can check in the back end and see if you can update this reference using custom logic. It is not possible to be updated from front end as its system updated data.

    Hi @Mica,

The “Create purchase order” button on the sales order header doesn’t just insert PO records, it triggers application logic in D365 that links sales orders and purchase orders.

Standard DMF entities for purchase orders and sales orders don’t expose these cross-reference fields, which is why you don’t see them.

For data migration, you have these options:
    • Import SOs and POs independently and use Customer Reference field to put PO number for tracking.
    • Or, if you need the exact same behavior, build a custom migration process that calls the same framework as the UI button.

If you find this answer helpful, please consider verifying the answer. 👍

    Regards,
    Syed Haris Shah
