Difference Between Rate and Route with Rate

Hello All,

I have some basic question about Rate Route Workbench. I am unable to determine scenario to use Rate or Route with rate.

Technically I understand that while Rate is done, system does not assign in Route plan, however, which one is more relevant to Outbound process.

I was trying to setup Route Guide and Route Plan for outbound process, but unlike Inbound route guide when i do Route with rate for Outbound order, system only assigns Route plan to order, no Shipping Carrier or service information gets updated on sales order.

Further, can somebody guide me through setup approach for Delivery term based Shipping carrier assignment..

Scenario-1

Sales order are booked with 2 different Delivery Terms (Prepaid / COD). There is different service provider while the Delivery Terms for order is Prepaid and different for COD.

e.g.

Order Number DeliveryTerms OriginZipCode DestinationZipcode Shipping Carrier
SO-0001 PrePaid 100001 12345689 Carrier-1
SO-0002 COD 100001 12345689 Carrier-2

Scenario-2

Extending the above scenario, what if i have single Carrier, the vendor account can be different.

    while you can different model of delivery on sales line for a single SO

    when using rate route workbench could try to use filter options and mode of delivery to get the rate with route

    the other option could be to use multiple SO and create one per delivery terms & MOD

    ThankYou for your inputs.

    The suggestion is workable, however, i need to automatize the rating process later through customization. for same to work successfully, i need to configure the services such that rating gives me only 1 option.

    So while the order is created > Customization will process Rating > System to identify based on Pin-Code  Origin and Destination the service provider to assign;

    Pin1 To Pin2 > If Delivery Terms = PrePaid > Shipping Carrier to assign is Carrier1

    Pin1 To Pin2 > If Delivery Terms = COD > Shipping Carrier to assign is Carrier2

    If you can suggest by which above can be achieved without any customization, would be further helpful.
