Hi Dear,

I have a requirement, where I have N:N relationship between Contact and Custom entity. there is a sub grid based on this N:N relationship at contact form. Now as per business requirement, user should be able update/associate multi value in this subgrid for multiple contact . I checked that crm bulk edit works only on single value field. is there any way or suggestion that this buld edit can be worked on sub grid as well?

Thanks

Aarush

    Hi Aarush,

I don't think there's a way to do this logically because all of the Contacts you'll edit have different starting values from each other, so you won't be able to have any prefilled/selected values for them. Another problem is if you edit 5 contacts and pick one {Custom Entity}, do you have to disassociate any others that exist? You'd need to come up with business rules on how to handle that.

If I HAD to implement this I'd

    • Put a button on the Contact home page (the list of contacts).
    • When you click the button, open a new htm page and pass in the IDs of the selected contacts as a parameter. This will put you on a new page and you'll know which contacts need to be updated.
    • On the custom page, I'd have a checkbox list or a multi-select grid of {Custom Entity}.
    • The user picks what the want from the grid and submits the page.
    • On submit, you sync up the N:N relationship between the contacts and the {custom entity}. You need to see if the specific records are already associated or you'll get an error. Depending on the business case, you'll have to disassociate and other records that were associated but weren't selected on the page.

This would definitely meet the business requirement but I would try to talk the user out of it.

Let me know if you have any followup questions. If this helps I'd appreciate if you would mark this as Answering your question.

    Thanks,

     Aiden

    Hi Aarush,

I have used the ableBridge Editable Grid to do bulk editing in child entities in a subgrid.  This has worked well for me.  I know PowerObjects has an editable subgrid as well that you might want to review.

Hopefully this is what you were asking...

    Thanks,

    Hi Drew,

You might be right. I though he was asking how to bulk edit contacts to edit the records on an N:N relationship.

Sorry Aiden for delayed response. I also thought of the same custom solution like you have suggested. I hope, Microsoft fill this gap in future release, because, OOTB bulk edit form can not be enhanced using customization.

    Thanks

    Aarush
