Best practice to migrate/import multiple contacts from old ERP

Hi!

I'm trying to import vendors and customers with multiple contacts to a new BC installation using configuration package. I can't really find any good information on how to do this and my integration partner seems confused too I'm afraid. This is the only article I've found on this, Read This Before Importing Contacts to Business Central - FMT (fmtconsultants.com) and I got that to work with customers. But when I try to do it the same way with Vendors I get error that the contact doesn't exist. That is when importing business relations, table 5054.

The basic steps are

  1. Turn off automatic creation of contacts when customer/vendor is created in marketing setup (also you need to wait up to an hour before this setting is applied)
  2. Import vendors (23)
  3. Import contacts (5050)
  4. Import business relations. (5054)

So in step 4 I get the error that the contact doesn't exist

Anyone got any tips?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

Configuration Package is the best way to import the Master. But one thing you should remember that, while importing the master Like Vendor, so fields like Contact, Vendor posting Groups, Gen. bus. Groups State, Country etc. master available.

As per the above issue, pls import Contact and then import Vendors.

If you are in BC Online. I would prefer to use edit in Excel instead of the configuration packages.

Then you can paste your data into the Excel sheet that the edit in Excel function creates for you.
