Security and Licensing

In .46 we have several customized roles I am noticing in the license usage summary report its triggering 2 licenses. I thought one role triggers 1 license,
so for example one role has a 1 next to finance and the same role for the same users also shows a 1.... is this a bug or does the role trigger just a finance Base license for example or does this one role now trigger a finance and finance attached?
I have the same question (0)

    Hi TechGirl20,

The license requirement depends on the contents of the role. The standard roles provided by Microsoft do require only one license. In case you create a custom role that has features in it, cross-license, the role will require more than one product license. I have seen security roles with all 5 F&O basic SKUs. Depending on the contents and the actual needs, you can reconfigure security to lower the license cost. If this is not possible, then the user should have a base and one or more attach licenses.

In case you modify standard security objects, then the license requirement can also change. A Finance license with Finance attach is not possible. You can have, e.g., Finance and an HR attach.

You can read more about the licenses on my blog: Dynamics 365 Licensing Enforcement Advent Calendar - Dynamicspedia

    Hi TechGirl20,

What you are seeing is correct, it just means that the licensing requirement for that specific role can be achieved by attaching either of those licenses as the base license to the user in the PPAC.
