Assembly Order Creation

Hello,

I have three items that are set up with a replenishment system of Assembly and an Assembly Policy of assembly to Order; a BOM is also attached to each item. When we import our Sales orders from our EDI connection Assembly Order creation is wildly inconsistent. Sometimes, it will create all the Assembly orders needed, other times none, and sometimes just a couple.

My BC Partner can't find an issue, and nothing has changed with our EDI connection in the past three years where this was never an issue. Has anyone encountered this or have any recommendations?
I have the same question (0)

Hi there! Good morning, evening, or afternoon - depending on where you are :) Hope you are well today! I see you posted this a while ago - hoping you have resolved by now but incase not, here are a few thoughts:

The inconsistent creation of Assembly Orders when importing Sales Orders via your EDI connection can be challenging. Since your setup hasn’t changed in three years, the issue might be related to data inconsistencies, system configurations, or a recent update. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

    1. Verify Item Setup
    • Double-check the Replenishment System and Assembly Policy settings for the affected items.
      • Ensure the Assembly Policy is set to Assemble-to-Order for all three items.
      • Confirm that the BOM is active and correctly linked to each item.
    2. Review EDI Data
    • Inspect the Sales Orders being imported via EDI for any discrepancies:
      • Are the quantities valid and non-zero?
      • Are the items correctly mapped to their respective Assembly BOMs?
      • Ensure there are no missing or corrupted fields in the imported data.
    3. Check for System Updates or Changes
    • Verify if any updates or patches were applied to Business Central recently. Updates can sometimes introduce changes that affect functionality.
    • If an update was applied, test the Assembly Order creation process in a sandbox environment to replicate the issue.
    4. Test Manual Sales Order Creation
    • Create a Sales Order manually in Business Central for the same items and quantities.
      • If Assembly Orders are created correctly, the issue likely lies with the EDI integration.
      • If the issue persists, it may be related to the Assembly Order logic or item setup.
    5. Review Job Queue and Background Tasks
    • Check the Job Queue Entries in Business Central to ensure there are no errors or delays in processing Assembly Orders.
    • Confirm that the background tasks responsible for creating Assembly Orders are running as expected.
    6. Debug the EDI Integration
    • Work with your EDI provider to debug the integration. Look for:
      • Any recent changes to the EDI mapping or configuration.
      • Logs or error messages that might indicate why some Assembly Orders are not being created.
    7. Enable Detailed Logging
    • Enable logging in Business Central to capture more details about the Assembly Order creation process.
      • This can help identify whether the issue is with the Sales Order import, the Assembly Order logic, or another area.
    8. Consider Custom Validation
    • If the issue persists, consider implementing custom validation logic to ensure all required data is present before creating Assembly Orders.

    Hope this helps some!

As far as I know, there is no update to Assembly Order in the latest version. It seems that the problem is still caused by customization (EDI connection).
This can only be found through debugging.

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks.

Hello, It looks like the issue could be due to reservation settings, stock availability, or how EDI sales orders are processed. Since your items are Assembly-to-Order, BC should generate Assembly Orders automatically, but inconsistencies can occur if some stock is available, orders are processed in batches, or reordering policies interfere. Try refreshing Order Planning to check if missing Assembly Orders appear but the best approach would be debugging within the system to pinpoint the root cause.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Hello,

The inconsistent creation of Assembly Orders when importing Sales Orders via EDI can be due to data inconsistencies, system configurations, or recent updates. To troubleshoot, verify item setup, review EDI data for discrepancies, check for system updates, test manual Sales Order creation, review job queue and background tasks, debug the EDI integration, enable detailed logging, and consider custom validation if the issue persists.
