Outlook w/ Server-Side Sync Painfully Slow

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

When I track an item in Outlook, the item is painfully slow to upload. It takes 10-15 minutes.

I changed System Settings as noted here to sync every 60 seconds but it is obviously not happening.

Users are expecting to use the "Convert To" function, which isn't available until the item is tracked. Even at 60 seconds, it seems silly to make a user sit there and stare at their PC that long in order to convert an email to a lead.

Thanks for any insight!

    Hi Bob,

First of all, we highly recommend to upgrade the Outlook Client to 2015.

    Download at this link:

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Also there is an important rollup available:

    CRM 2015 Update 1

    www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

Also, if emails are not sent through CRM Online, and you usually uses only Outlook to send and receive emails, you can set the users to use 'CRM for Outlook' in the incoming and outgoing in the mailbox settings.

I am also sending some useful links about Outlook Client performance:

I am using the latest version of the Outlook plugin.

I shouldn't have to change it to sync via Outlook. If I set it to sync every 60 seconds, it should, well, sync every 60 seconds, right?

Edit: Even after changing sync type to Outlook rather than server-side sync, it takes more than 60 seconds to synchronize.

So the answer here lies in the fact that server-side sync is asynchronous; the user doesn't really have control over when the data is synched.

A Microsoft rep confessed a lot of dissatisfaction in the user community over the fact that it lags so much.

We've set it up to use server-side synch for outgoing email, so users can send email from inside the CRM web or mobile app without requiring Outlook to be open somewhere. And we set incoming and activities sync to be via Outlook client.

This means that when the user tracks something in Outlook, it goes up to the server straight away, and unlocks the Convert To and other functions.

My takeaway from this is that you should only use server side sync if you really, really want users to be able to do stuff without having Outlook open on their desktop.
