I have a doubt.

NAV SQL clients connect to a DB as normal, but if the NAV Server service is down they continue to connect without problem. My question, what exactly is the NAV server service for?

    Hello,

    If the Dynamics NAV Service Tier is no longer running, clients will be disconnected. If there is another Dynamics NAV Service Tier running in a load balanced scenario, it can take over the load and clients will be able to continue their work.

    There is a strange thing. I have completely shut down the server with NAV server, open the NAV client sql and can access all the data. So what happens?

    the navision server (nav server), only installs if I'm going to use the native DB? not my case, I have the DB in SQL.

    NAS, do you need the NAVserver to work or the NAV webservices?

    You are on NAV 2009, and it has a classic client and RTC client. For classic, you don't need NAV Service but RTC you need NAV Service up and running.   Looks like you are using the classic client, for that you don't need NAV service but if you want to use Web Services then you need NAV Service.

    Thank you. all cleared up. If I use the webservices I need the NAVsrever, if not, the sql client is enough.

    2 questions:

    -Is there a web client for this version? over VPN is very slow.

    -If you use web services, if the server crashes they will no longer work. As far as I know, I can balance that service with 2 IIS, but how do I balance the navserver?

    Unfortunately, for that version web client is not available, I believe we have it from NAV 2013.

    okay. a shame.
    and referring to the HA of the webservice? I understand that I must install 2 servers with navserver + webservices and the LB (load balanced) pointing to each server?

    Load Balancer is not a requirement and unless you want to have it, you could build one or more services on the same server or different services on a different server.
