Creating just an invoice

I just want to create an invoice, can I do so, do I have to have a product list then do a quote then do an order, then do an invoice?

We are not a retail industry.  I just want to be able to invoice fees and commissions and both of these values are variables - different each time we need to produce an invoice.

Thank you,

    Resolved!

Save the invoice, then the navigation pane is no longer greyed out and I can enter a write in product.

    Thanks!

Thank you, this makes good sense to me, but, the left navigation is grayed out.

These values come from adding line items - if you look in the left navigation - hopefully you will see a link named Products. Clicking this will bring up a grid of line items, you can click into the grid and from the ribbon select Add New Invoice Product. This screen is where you can pick an existing product from the catalog or create a write in. When you save the line item - it will update the read-only fields on the Invoice form - after refreshing or hitting the Recalculate button at the top.

Thank you,  my hold up is that when I made the custom invoice I can populate figures into the detail amount, tax and total amount.  They are greyed out.

I created "new" fields, but this did not work either for populating amounts after I published the new form.

There isn't anything forcing you to go through the process of Quote to Order to Invoice. You can create just an Invoice is needed.

If you want to itemize things that are pre-defined (like products or services) you'll need to use the product catalog. If lines are more ad-hoc you can create "write-in" products and manually enter information.
