Forms Authentication for Microsoft dynamics CRM 2016 on-premise

Posted on by

I currently have windows authentication, set up for my on-premise Microsoft Dynamics CRM instance. I am trying to remove the alert box (username / password), and replace with a more conventional login page.

does anyone know if I can use Forms Authentication with Microsoft dynamics CRM 2016 on-premise? all of the information I can find is for earlier versions of the CRM.

below is a link to the Authentication type I am referring to.

Overview:

http://www.powerobjects.com/2012/12/07/dynamics-crm-portal-authentication-methods/#collapse1

implement:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/xdt4thhy.aspx

Are there any other methods of authentication for an on-premise instance that would give me a login page rather then a pop-up?

Thanks for any help.

What do you use for test automation? Can you start the proces with run as user?

Thanks for the response, i will have automated testing running on this instance and unfortunately the pop out for Windows authentication is causing a lot of issues.

    Hello,

You should configure ADFS/IFD. Here is good tutorial - www.interactivewebs.com/.../how-to-set-up-crm-2015-ifd-on-windows-2012-and-adfs-3-0

You could configure IFD with ADFS: technet.microsoft.com/.../gg188595.aspx

That would provide you with an url and the adfs login page to login to you crm from outside your organisation. I don't think there are other options that CRM provides.

But isn't it better to get rid of the login box? That way people are automatically signed with the same user as Windows.
