1. How do we change the serial number in the serial number list for an item in inventory? Delete serial numbers that are gone that didn't get posted to the sales order? And add serial numbers from previous stock received before serial number function was created.

I think the Item reclassification journal can help you with a lot of these issues

You can read more about how that can be used here:

The journal will let you change serial number on inventory you already have.

When it comes to updating older transactions that can be a bit more tricky if they are already soled.

To make sure that is done in a way that do not create inconsistency in your data I would recommend that you discuss with your partner how that can be done.

And please circle back if you have any more detailed question around what the reclassification journal can do and how it should be used.

We are trying to change the sn for existing inventory. I have added an item line to the reclassification journal and then selected Line | Item Tracking Lines.

Using the selector for the serial number I select the number that I wish to change. The selector dialog shows that qty one with that sn is available.

I select it and enter the new sn. When I attempt to post I get an error message stating "The Serial No. Information does not exist. Identification fields and values: Item No.='XXXXX',Variant Code='',Serial No.='XXXXXXXX'". What am I missing here?

Hi, you may have enabled the option below.

So after you have assigned your SN number, you must create an SN Information Card.

yzhums I turned off the "SN No. Info. Must Exist" options and then repeated the process without success. The entries posted but did not actually change the s/n. One additional requirement is that on the "Edit - Item Tracking Lines" page the "Appl.-to Item Entry" must also be filled. Once I did this the post worked correctly.

Inge is right about using Item reclassification journal or whse reclassification journal if this is a directed location. It would work in most cases, however, depending on how the tracking code is set up for the item, user could get issue when posting. provide a screenshot of the Item tracking code, showing the Serial no. fasttab. I assume it is only serial tracked. If it's also lot tracked, need to show that as well.
