Hi Community,

I am getting an error when I try to insert a new planning line, the message is The line cannot be split. I reviewed different posts but still, I cannot have the solution.

Do you have any idea how to fix or skip this error?

Thank you

Try adding a new line anywhere else, and it will work. The reason is because in the background Business Central assigns all lines a line number and you have reached the limit for inserting a new line in that specific spot. If you keep adding new lines in the same spot you will always get that error message eventually. For example lets say you have the following two lines only:

    • Line 1 - Line No. assigned by Business Central is 10,000
    • Line 2 - Line No. assigned by Business Central is 20,000

When you insert a new line before line 1, Business Central will assign it a line number that is half of that existing line. In this case the new line number will be 5,000. If you then insert another line number before the 5,000 line, the line number will be 2,500. You can keep going like this until you get line numbers 1,250, 625, 312, 156, 78, 39, 19, 9, 4, 2, 1. At this point if you try to insert another new line you will get an error message that the line cannot be split, for the reason being that the system can't assign it a line number that's half of 1.
