Hi all,

I am trying to change IC customer on an Intercompany Partner Card and i am getting an error message which says I cannot make a change on the IC partner code because the new IC customer i want to add to the partner has open entries.

How do i resolve this?

Thanks for the help in advance.

    Hello,

This error occurs because Business Central prevents changes to the IC Customer or Vendor on an Intercompany Partner Card if the new IC customer has open transactions (like unposted or partially posted IC journals or documents). To resolve this, you must fully settle or delete any open entries (e.g., post or cancel IC documents or clear IC inbox/outbox related to that customer). Once all entries are closed, you’ll be able to assign the new IC customer to the partner without error.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Regards,
    Mansi Soni

This is the standard control. But if you want to skip it, although it is not recommended, you can try the following method.
Dynamics 365 Business Central: Can we skip/ignore field validation errors?

    Thanks.

    Hi, good day
I hope this can help you, and give you some hints.

INTERCOMPANY - Change a Customer / Vendor card to be an IC Partner when exist OPEN entries.

    Best Regards
    Gerardo

    Hello,

You are trying to change the IC Customer on an Intercompany Partner Card and receive an error stating that the new IC customer has open entries, it's because the system restricts changes to the IC Partner Code when there are open ledger entries associated with that customer. This is a built-in validation to prevent inconsistencies in intercompany transactions.

To resolve this, you must first close or apply all open entries for the customer before attempting to assign or change the IC Partner Code. For guidance on setting up intercompany transactions properly.

This error appears because the IC Customer you're trying to assign to the Intercompany Partner already has open (unapplied) entries, and BC doesn't allow linking it to a partner unless its entries are fully settled.

    ✅ To resolve:

    1. Go to the Customer Ledger Entries for that IC Customer.

    2. Apply or close all open entries (payments, invoices, credit memos, etc.).

    3. Once the entries are closed, try assigning the IC Customer to the Intercompany Partner again.

This is a safeguard to prevent mismatches in IC transactions.

This error in Business Central ERP occurs because the system prevents changing the IC Customer on an Intercompany Partner Card if the new IC customer has open entries—typically posted transactions that haven’t been fully settled.
    To resolve this:
    1. Review Open Entries: Go to the Customer Ledger Entries for the IC customer you want to assign. Check for any open (unapplied) entries.
    2. Apply or Close Entries: If possible, apply payments or credit memos to close those entries. You can do this via the Apply Entries action.
    3. Post Remaining Transactions: Ensure all pending transactions (e.g., invoices, payments) are posted and settled.
    4. Retry the Change: Once the IC customer has no open entries, try updating the IC Partner Card again.
Note: This response was created in collaboration with Microsoft Copilot to ensure clarity and completeness. I hope it helps to some extent.
