Can Retail Store Scale Unit work as headless for 3rd party POS in store?

Hello. While CSU is headless, I have a request to have a RSSU in each store. The challenge is that the stores use a 3rd party POS which will continue to be used and NOT replaced with Store Commerce app. I have not found any information on RSSU used as headless commerce so it seems it is designed to only be used with Store Commerce App.
 
What are your thoughts?
