What is the difference between Job status planning and Quote?

Hi 

what is the difference between Job Status planning and Quote? Is it just a label to differentiate 2 statuses or does BC handle them differently.

Also, on a project with Status “open” , how can a mark a task to be completed to prevent further posting to it?

    Quote means that you have to quote estimation of job and Open means your job is starting and you can create Job invoice etc.

    But what is the difference between quote and planning status.  

    When you set the status to quote versus when you set the status to planning. What is the difference?

    I guess the question here is how do the system validations differ in these two states for example certain actions are prevented etc.
