Generate GL Report

Hello - i want to generate a GL Report/ Journal Report by transactions which will show dates, amounts, description, dimensions etc in a table format so it's easy to run filters and formulas etc.  

Currently - i'm able to obtain a report that is not very manage of user friendly.

    I am not aware of any built in report in BC. The normal way is to go to General Ledger Entries and filter but that is not user friendly.

    Other methods are:

    1) Use PowerBi desktop (since it is free) and design the report.

    2) Use JetReport

    3) Design RDLC or Word Report (needs customization)

    Have you tried the general ledger entries page? Set your filters or save a view. Use export to excel. Potentially you have an Excel file offline that you can drop this into and it does the necessary calculations. The other options that MahGah has listed are worthwhile. Especially the Power BI one as it’s included in most licenses for free and you can condition the data with power query and add calculated columns or measures. To start that process off - search for Setup Reporting Data. A wizard helps you create a web service for use in Power BI or Excel

    Than you - i was avoiding in the temporary term to onboard Jet Reports. I think i will eventually head toward that way since it provides better dynamic reporting capabilities. thx

    Thank you. I will try Power BI as a temp fix before onboarding Jet Reports.

    I think Josh provided more details here.

    We are using both Jet and PowerBi. I think Jet is a great tools for report designing and helped us a lot.

    Hello,

    I have taught my customers to open the General Ledger Entries and using Filters create a list to export to Excel. Now this is cumbersome so most of my customers use Jet Reports or Power BI to generate the reports needed.

    Jet Reports is very easy to create a Report reading table 17 and applying a standard report Option page you can fill in filters and report the columns you need.

    I have a sample Customer Ledger Entry one but the concept is the same if you want to see it.

    Thank you Steve. We're on boarding Jet currently. I will reachout if i have any issues. But seems that Jet is the route that is best for reporting.

    You can sign-up for a Trail Version of Business Central for 30 days. After 30 days, your Partner can extend up to 90 days total. This will give you 90 days to play and test the software.

    Hi Steven - we have business central already. I was referring to Power BI the basic version. How can i add that to business central? Thanks
