Need to change expiration date when material is opened

I am looking for a way for D365 to change the expiry date on a material when it is opened in production. For example, if I have 50L Drums of WFI water that have a shelf life of 3 years, but once it is open, only 5 days due to our GMP processes, D365 still thinks the water is useable for the original expiry date. We will still consume the water over 5 days in different runs, but is there a way to add a secondary shelf life/ expiry when certain materials/ batches are opened? Thank you!

without a customization, you could enabled change tracking on batch expiry date field.

When you run the update expiry date to define the new date, you can track the old date in database log.
