Business Portal 5.0 Re-install after Database Refresh

We would like to refresh our GP2010 Development Environment regularly with data from GP2010 Production Environment.  Whenever, we have done one in the past, the Business Portal 5.0 (as well as 4.0) is messed up and we have to uninstall and re-install the Portal, Web services on the development environment.  It is such a messy and laborious process.. Is there a way to refresh the databases without having to re-install Business Portal and web services.  If there is one, please share it with me. It will be very helpful to have one such documented process available.

    Srinivasan,

Can you offer more information about what is broken when you do this "refresh"?  Is it related to users on your SQL Server?  It is possible that you'll need to modify some user permissions since the sql server user sid's are different.  If you provide more information about your issues, perhaps we can offer some feedback.

    Thanks

    Rob

    Bob:

    Thanks for your interest.

When I refresh the database and try to access any module within Business Portal, it gives -

    An unexpected error has occurred.

Please let me know if you need any more information

    Bob,

We need some more debugging information.  Try the following:  go into your web.config for your BP SharePoint site (something like the following:  <drive>\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\XX where XX = port).  Find the customErrors tag and set it to false.  Find CallStack and set it to true.  After doing that, try again with your users and see what you get.

    Thanks

    Rob
