Invalid Argument | System.NullArgumentException descriptor

I have a single user who is having a problem accessing Contact records.

Several months ago the user starting getting an error when trying to open any contact in the system. An error box would popup saying "Invalid Argument". When downloading the error log it read, in the inner error message, "System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: descriptor".  When the user hits "Ok" on on the Invalid Argument popup they get a browser message saying that "An error has occurred. Please return to the home page and try again".

The error happens when the form is spinning on "Loading business logic..."

There are, for some reason, 2 Dynamics CRM ribbons stacked at the top of the page in the background of the invalid argument error popup.

At the time I tried several things. Apologies for some vagueness as my memory of the situation has eroded:

  • Gave myself the same security setup as the user and opened the same records as the user was attempting to open. Could not reproduce the error.
  • Took control of the users browser and checked a few browser settings(i.e. compatability mode) and cleared his browser cache (IE). Still got the error and was unable to find any anomalies.
  • Ran a trace on the server and was unable to pinpoint any particular problems.

At the time I was unable to come up with a fix, but found that the user was able to use Chrome without problems. At the time we had the user switch to chrome.

Fast forward to several months later and the user is now experiencing the same error in the same situation but now on Chrome.

Has anyone had similar problems and was able to solve them or have further troubleshooting ideas?

    Some additional information:

(Integrated information into root post and seem to be unable to delete this post. Apologies)

I am having a similar problem, ran a trace and only found that the prvReadTraceLog was missing. Assigned it to out base security role, and monitoring it now. Did anyone else find the solution to this problem?

Sorry for not keeping this up to date.

While I never did quite figure out exactly what was happening, it ended up looking like a client-side caching problem, despite having had the user clear their cache several times during the process of debugging.

In a debugging session with the user I sent them a link to a Contact on a form they would not have been using when their error started. They were able to go to the Contact without problems. The user was then able to change back to their original form and were no longer getting the error. I had them test several Contacts that were previously throwing an error and the problem appeared to have sorted itself out.

Not a terribly satisfying answer as I don't have an exact culprit, but sounds like caching to me.

Indeed, for my case as well, by changing broswer/clearing cookies the problem was resolved.

    Hi Everyone,

Here is what worked for us. Any other user who is able to open the record, this could be an admin user, will send a link to the affected user by using email a link button on the entity form and check if the affected user is able to open the record.

    Why is this happening?

    this is our guess. Lol

We noticed that when the user get the error message, the URL contains a formid which is not an id for any of the entity forms. This could be an id of a deleted or removed form from the entity at some point.
