MSCRM Toolkit

Hello,

does anybody have any experience using the open source MSRCM Toolkit (http://mscrmtoolkit.codeplex.com/) in a production environment?

We would like to use some features, but since it is not an official Microsoft tool, I hesitate to do so in a production environment.

Kind regards

Kai Hartmann

    Hi Kai,

Do you have a stage , dev or uat server to test it first. never a good idea to run those tools direct on Prod before you try on a test server

    Hi Bruno,

we will use it first in a development and test environment, but after that it should be used in a production environment.

What we are doing: We developed a workflow, which should check and update activity records. As Dynamics CRM only allows to execute a workflow for 250 records each time (due to paging), we would like to use the Toolkit to execute the workflow for all records at once.

I never tried this feature but it seems to be a tool using sdk to invoke the workflow over a larger set of records. if works in a test environment it will work in prod

you can always back up production as an extra step

this is an old trick, not sure if it works with all versions of crm outlook

good to remember that creating thousands of workflows can cause some severe load on the asynchronous service.

Thank you for all the information. Backing up the system is a good idea. We won't use the Outlook trick since it seems a bit hacky, and the tool provides a more convenient way of doing this, which should work in all Dynamics CRM versions, not just 2011.

If you have outlook client you can run workflows for more than 250 records at once ;)
