Partial Reservation- Any Way to Reserve Only a Portion Directly from the Sales Order?

Hi everyone,

I’m working with the standard reservation functionality on the Sales Order Line. When using Line → Functions → Reserve, Business Central reserves the entire quantity on the line.

My client’s requirement is to reserve only a portion of the quantity.
Example: Line quantity is 10 units, but the user wants to reserve only 5 units.

I’m aware that the Reservation Worksheet can be used to reserve specific quantities, but the client does not want to use that page. They want to handle reservations directly from the Sales Order, without navigating through additional pages or multiple clicks.

So I’m trying to understand:

  • Is there any standard way to partially reserve a user-entered quantity directly from the Sales Order Line?
  • Any option (other than splitting the line) that allows entering how many units to reserve?
  • Or is custom development the only path to achieve this?

Any insights or confirmation from others who have handled similar scenarios would be very helpful.

    Business Central’s standard reservation functionality reserves the full line quantity when using Line → Functions → Reserve, and there is no built-in option to enter a partial quantity directly on the Sales Order without splitting the line or using the Reservation Worksheet.
     
    If the client wants to avoid extra pages and clicks, custom development is the only way—for example, adding a field for “Quantity to Reserve” and modifying the reservation logic to respect that value.
     
    In short, partial reservations from the Sales Order page are not supported out-of-the-box.

    Business Central can only reserve the full line quantity from the Sales Order.
    Partial reservation (like reserving 5 out of 10) is not possible directly on the Sales Line unless you either:
     
    split the line, or
     
    use the Reservation Worksheet.
     
     
    If the user wants to enter a partial quantity directly on the Sales Order, then custom development is required.
