Change record ownership in bulk

I have several custom entities whose records are currently owned by the "process" that imported them. I need to change the owning business unit and owning team to one in a list based on a parameter within the record. Including all entities, I'm looking at needing to change the ownership of over 500,000 records, so I need to do this in bulk. What is the best way to achieve this? I wish I could do it in SQL. It would make more sense!!! But since its not recommended to do so, I need the next best solution.

This will be an ongoing process that needs to be run against any new record. The owner needs to be assigned to a team based on a parameter in the record.

Help would be appreciated.

Workflow would be your best option as you can assign to team based on record field value as well it will be very easy to change if you want to make changes later. Make it on-demand so that you can run on exisitng records.

YOU CAN USE bULK EXECUTION WORKFLOW TOOL TO EXECUTE THIS WORKFLOW ON exisiting RECORDS

RE: Change record ownership in bulk

    Hi Bryan,

S U can acheive this by creating a background workflows which by default updates the records automatically based on our condition. But if u want to make changes for the existing records as well then u have to create a on-demand work & run it for all the records & then convert it in to background workflow for the future records to automatically update.

If u need 2 do programatically then plz follow d link provided by chitra.

Also To know more about how to create workflows & to know more about on-demand & background workflow Plz go through this link.

hi you can create workflow to update records owner to your owner value.

then use advance find according to your condition, after that the result will appear in a view.

You can select all records then click on Run Workflow  and select your workflow then all selected records will be effected with updated owner.
