Adding entities, linking to other entities

Hi

I use to program desktop/ client server windows systems. If someone need to store a list of data against a company, it was relatively easy to manage - create a new table, then link it 1 to many to the company table - at it's most basic

So with CRM I've got our clients within Accounts. I want to store a list of info against the accounts relating to what hardware they have installed.

Can I do this ?

Can I just create a new entity and then link it to accounts ? Any quick way to show/do this

thanks

Mat

It's exactly the same, but you are using the GUI instead of direct access the database.

Under Settings/Customizations, create a new entity. Within this new entity, you can define fields, forms, views, and relationships (1:n, n:1, n:n) too.

From within your new entity, create a n:1 relationship to the existing account entity, thats it.

After publishing your changes, you will see a new navigation entry (to you new entity) on account.

You can further customize the new entity form to display a lookup field which points to account.

    Hope this helps!

Hi, just for addition for Peter's answer,

    1. Create a new entity: Hardware

    2. Create a new entity: Account Hardware

    3. Create N:1 Relationship (lookup field) in the Account Hardware (newly created), create lookup field to Hardware and Account entities.

    4. Based on the entity: Account Hardware, you are actually already created relationship, many to many, it means that 1 Account can have many Hardwares, and 1 Hardware can be linked to many Accounts

    5. In the Form, both Account and Hardware, you can create a subgrid of Account Hardware then user can be able to see and input new record.

    Hope it helps!

    Thanks.

Almost there, when I click to view the products I've entered for a client, I have to reselect a view for it to display all the records, otherwise it display when there are 3.

sorry, I mean it displays 1 record, where there are in fact 3. As soon as I select a different view, or the the same view, it then displays 3 records

definitely a strange refresh issue. I've put the subgrid into the main account view form. When I view it by selecting from the searchable list of accounts, the list of products I've attached works fine. However, if I select an account from my recently used list, it doesn't display until I manually refresh the screen.

    Hi Matt,

    How are you.

"if I select an account from my recently used list, it doesn't display until I manually refresh the screen." --> Does it mean you double click from the product form to the lookup Account field?

How you find so far? is that any difficulty? Maybe you can give us the screenshot?

    Thank you.

    Hi

if I double click from the list of accounts, it displays the account and the products I've assigned to the accounts fine. if I select an account from the recently viewed menu option, it doesn't display the products.

Another question, how do I assign the product as a lookup to another entity ?

--> you just go to the product entity and then create 1:N Relationship to another entity

--> or you go to the another entity and then create N:1 Relationship to the Product.

It will give lookup to the Product.

Hi, so here's where I'm at the moment and thanks for all your help so far

I've created a Company product entity, with 3 new fields, Product Name, serial number and expiry date.

The primary field has been selected as Product Name.

I've then linked this new entity to the Account entitty using an N:1 relationship.

All works fine, I've embedded a subgrid in the account view which displays the products added against that account.

I now want a lookup for product name.

I want to create a new entity which holds the list of individual products, which will then be used as a lookup for the company product entity.

If I create this entity (called S3 products)  with a single field Products, from what I understand I should then do  a 1:N relation ship from Company product entity to S3 products, but then how do I display the lookup value.

    thanks

    Mat
