John, if you are not very familiar with doing an upgrade. I suggest you work with a partner or contractor that you trust to accomplish your first move from NAV to BC.

Hi, Nitin provides a lot of useful information that you can refer to.
But I think it would be better to re-analyze the requirements, because many new features will be added in BC every six months, and some customizations may no longer be needed.
Moreover, there are many methods of On-Premises that cannot be used in SaaS and Extension development, and the upgrade of customization is relatively difficult.
