Production order routing - trigger or workflow to start work

Hi All,

When using production orders with routing steps, how do you know when to start production or to start a particular routing step? Say we need to have components for a selected routing steps to assemble a semi finished, when the components are available is there a system alert or is there a worksheet you can run that shows which production orders and routing steps are required to start? Theoretically no different to issuing pick list lists to satisfy sales order demand based on on inventory availability so a bulk process or some trigger helps

Thanks

The Pick Worksheet will suggest Picks for Production Orders, the same as it does for Warehouse Shipments, assuming your Location is set to Require Pick.

For knowing what to work on, depending on your use of Work/Machine Centers you can use the "Task List" to see what is due to start based on the Routings across all Production Orders for a particular Center.

There are also ISV tools available in AppSource to help with scheduling.  I recommend either Insight Works or Netronics.

    Hi Samantha

As a Production Planner in a previous life I found this hard in Business Central too.

At Sabre we developed a function called "Sabre Production" which is a suite of items which help the production process. We have a page in Sabre Production which is called the "Available to Produce Page". It is a list of Production Orders and highlights the component lines and order based on component availability.

Green = Enough on hand to cover the order and all gross demand

Yellow = Enough on hand to cover this order but not all gross demand

Red = Not enough on hand to cover remaining component need on this order

It's a great way to see if you should release an order.

We added a toggle to look at Routing information too so you can see what Work / Machine Centres are needed as well which is helpful.

Happy to show you this functionality if needed.
