Drag-and-drop user interface for outbound load planning

I have a customer requirement for the need to simplify the ability to move sales order/load lines between loads and shipments. Their business is make-to-order and they often need to make adjustments to loads either due to delays in production or based on the result of an outbound inspection.

The business is interested in a drag-and-drop functionality for outbound load adjustments.

I know that the new Outbound load planning workbench (OLPW) has been optimized for performance and it is not recommended to make extensions on this form. I would however want to understand from the community if anyone else has had a scenario like this and what options you have considered?

Is a PowerApps-based UI for load planning an option? I am wondering if the complexity of unpicking or reversing of work in D365 might make this an unviable option.

Any advise or insight from the community would mean a lot. Thank you.

    Hi,

This is an interesting question. There are options to use drag-and-drop features in both Dynamics 365 F&O as well as using Power Apps. For F&O, you will need extensible controls. For Power Apps, most likely a PCF control. There are a lot of PCF controls available in a gallery.

I haven't developed something similar before. You will need to consider performance for sure. What exact technology to use depends on the exact detailed requirements.

I have had several clients who desired this functionality and went with an external TMS solution for several reasons. All of their load planning and scheduling took place in those tools and just created and brought back the load to D365. Agree with Andre's comments on trying to do that for D365 and the complexities.
