Power Query maxing out server resources

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Our Dynamics GP users have recently started using power query for ad hoc reporting by querying directly against the database tables.  At times these queries bring our system to a halt and eat up all of the server resources.   I would not think this is a typical behavior but I have asked our users to refrain from using this tool until we can come up with a way for all users to coexist without crashing the SQL server.   Do we just need to add additional server resources or are there possibly inefficiencies in the use of the power query tool?  If you believe the hype you find online power query is just plug and play with no worries about anything ... but it isn't working in my environment.
