For word reports the XML mapping pane in the developer tab can be used to edit the report, save, then import to test. In edit in excel, there is that link to BC with publish. Is there something in the word version similar to the excel one that ID's and links to D365 BC?

No, you need to create the layout and import it using Report Layouts; please check the below link

As far as I know, there is none.
In addition, you mentioned the Edit in Excel function. Excel Layout also does not have the function you mentioned. You must import BC before testing.

Standard Business Central integrate with Business Central include Outlook and Excel. There is no integration for Word, as it is not commonly used.

However, this may be introduced in a future version.
