Trouble Customizing Invoice Template

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi guys,

I have been asked to modify our invoice template. I have modified all of the files in the following directory in an attempt to identify which one is the template I need to change, but any changes to these files has not yielded any change in the invoice that I want to modify?:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Retail Management System\Store Operations\ReceiptTemplates

I don't understand why the changes are not showing in our POS, as all the information I have found online has stated that these files are the ones that you want to edit. I literally deleted all of the code from each to see if I could me the invoice blank and yet it remained unchanged. I tried restarting the POS after each change to no avail.

I am truly stumped. I ran a grep-like search for keywords in the template to see if it may reside elsewhere, but I could not find anything.

To be clear, I need to modify the invoice that is viewed via POS > Journal Viewer > Receipt Preview (POS > F4). Ours currently says "Invoice XXXXX" (insert invoice # where XXXXX is) at the top right of the page, but I do not see a "invoice.xml" file anywhere. I have found fullpage.xml, but that is one of the files in the \ReceiptTemplates directory that did not yield any change.

I also should add that I do not wish to change a line of text, but rather overhaul the cosmetics, layout, etc. in its entirety, thus, access to the .xml (or whatever format) is necessary. Does anyone know where this phantom file resides?

I would make one from scratch, but that would be extremely time consuming considering the fact I have no "base template" to use as a reference...

Thanks in advance!

-Derek

Where can we access the CustomerSource?

40 col receipt or full page?

There are a number of templates posted on the RMS reports/templates library on CustomerSource. What you need has likely been requested before. Place the desired template into the ReceiptsTemplates folder under Store Operations.

Run Store Operations Manager, Database, Registers, Receipt Formats. New, select the template, edit properties if necessary, save changes to all forms, select Xreport template for Report option, and save the new format. Now go to Registers, Register List, and assign your format to Receipt Printer 1 or 2 under the register properties for each POS lane. Close POS and start it again.

This only needs to be done on one PC since the format is saved into the database and assigned to each register that will use it.

Do you have any recommendations as far as an optimal workflow for editing these files?

Should I create a "development" system that runs on it's own independent network/database? That was I only have to restart 1 POS...?

And yes, that helps a ton and saves me a lot of heartache!

That would explain a lot... We do have multiple terminals. That stinks.

In order for the changes to be accepted two things will need to occur before you see any changes.

    1. The modified file will need to be in all machines that have RMS installed.

    2. If you are working on this while the POS is open? You need to close and re-open "ALL" pos machines or nothing will change. I hope this information helps you.

that modification is you want to do, the original invoice file is that saith receipt and to save the changes you have to upgrade the terminal and choose which format you want to work with
