Help : Changing Display Name (Entities)

Hello Forum Members:

With my Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online system, I want to temporarily change the display name of Account to Property. For example, Property will be listed as Display name next to Account Icon, in lieu of the name Account. This display name change should carry forward in all Account-related Forms, Views, System Views, Reporting, etc. I realize that the Database Tables / Fields need to stay with Accounts in original naming conventions and this is fine. In fact, I wish to change the new Display Name for Entity Property back to Accounts in near future.

Note: This temporary Entity display name change is for a Proof of Concept only and is NOT meant to be a permanent customization.

Please help!

Thanks, CB

RE: Help : Changing Display Name (Entities)

    Hi Casey,

You need to rename the Display Name and the Plural Name through the Account entity Customization. This will change the display name on the Main Navigation Pane

Messages – All the Messages containing the name ‘Account’ will have to be manually replaced with the name ‘Property’.

Field Names – Need to be changed from the Attribute Properties

Reports – If you want to change the OOB Reports, it will be a massive task to do the same. The OOB Reports in CRM Online use the SQL Queries. So, I doubt if you can change them and plug them back.

If you want to change custom reports, then you will have to do it through Report Designer.

View Names – This will have to be manually changed through View customization

Navigation Items on the Form – You will have to change them through Form Customizations.

I suggest you create a managed solution file to make these edits. Down the lane, when you want to bring back the name ‘Accounts’ you can just remove the managed solution, and you will have the old names related to your Account entity.

    Cheers,

    Karth

    Karth,

I like your idea on creating a Managed Solution for my Display Name Change for Account Entity, thanks. Do you know some easy how-to steps on creating a Managed Solution for this project? Note: I do not need to distribute this Managed Solution

    Please help!

    Thanks,

    CB

    Karth:

Thank you very much. This managed solution will work great for the temporary customization for

Property (Account Entity renamed to Property).

Question: how do I enable this Managed Solution so that I can begin to look at it Real Time?

Note: I basically want to develop / customize My Property (managed solution), and turn it on or publish as a Live Environment. I also want to be able to disable the Managed Solution in the future and set my system back to default Account Entity (i.e. Leaving behind any customizations related to Property).

    Please help!

    Thanks,

    Casey

You need to publish that managed solution so all changes will real time. If you want to get back to the default state you will have to delete that managed solution from CRM .

Thanks a lot for the reply.

This is benefiting me too as I have a similar requirement. My requirement was to convert Opportunities to Opps. The question I have is
    a) Where and all are the conversions necessary?
    b) How long does it take to convert?
    c) Is it a better thing to start all over again. That is disable Opportunities and build the structure from Scratch having the name as Opps.(I believe this is the not advisable, but look forward for your thoughts)

    Please suggest me
