Am i forced to use $42/Gb Dataverse storage for my Dynamics CRM instance, or can i use $0.25/Gb Azure SQL?

Also to confirm, the CSP Pro license includes a max of 10Gb Dataverse database storage per tenant, regardless of the number of CSP pro licenses. Is this correct?
I have the same question (0)

D365 CRM requires Dataverse as the underlying database. As I know you cannot replace it with Azure SQL for core CRM functionality.

You cannot decide where the database will reside for an app, as it is determined by those who developed it.
If an app is developed by Microsoft and its data resides in Dataverse, you cannot change the architecture of the app (unless you want to reinvent the wheel yourself).
Have you done an estimates of your database usage over months/years for the growing needs, along with cleanup plan?

    Hey.

Following on Sohaib's post:  Do you have an estimation on how much you will consume in Database, File & Auditing?  When you purchase licenses you're granted some base capacity (10GB of Database, 2Gb of Audit, 20GB of File).  If your licenses are Enterprise, you also get an extra 250MB DB & 2GB File capacity added per user license.  if you have a small database that might be enough.

But as stated before, the architecture requires storing data into those 3 types of storage and this is controlled by the product and packaged "as is".

@PerezAguiar, based on historical usage, we need at least 100Gb database storage (not log and file), which i guess means $3,780/mo just for storage. Sounds like we need to find another solution.

What do you store inside this 100GB database? Are there any financial transactions, etc.? Have you developed a lot of CE apps that save large data in the Dataverse?

In my experience, to store large transactional/business data, people usually go for an ERP (Dynamics 365 F&O, Business Central, etc.) and use the CRM mainly as front-desk systems(for quick apps etc.) and for integration purposes.

You can also open a support case with Microsoft and ask them to review your use case and suggest the best possible solution.

@Sohaib Cheema, how does ERP help, isnt it also relying on the same Dataverse Database storage?

Actually, why can't I use dataflow to Azure SQL? I guess this would only work for new custom entities/tables, not the built-in ones

ERP has its own database (Azure SQL on the backend). It also comes with a space allocation quota, and you will be charged extra for any additional space. Data is compressed to reduce its size. In recent years, ERP has had growing integrations with other apps via Dataverse. Any tables synced to Dataverse (dual-write) increase the size of Dataverse.
You may want to analyze that what are most space consuming tables/apps for you and how you can reduce/optimize those in size.
