Management Reporter and 1 FRx Report

Posted on by 22,647

Is there any chance to import from FRx only one new ROW?

We did the migration to Management REporter, cleaned up the Rows and Columns and got the reports all running.  While doing our first review with the client they tell me that one of the major reports is not here.

We investigate and learn that one week before we were to go live the finance admin decided that she needed to make major changes to a huge report - not just a couple of rows, but dam near the whole thing.

Yes they knew about the conversion - Yes they knew the time line - but she was given permission to make the change - however, no one said a word to us.  We had a clear understanding a month ago that the FRx reports were frozen.

To double up on that, we had been done the FRx migration for about a week before we were going live with the Application and Server migration.  It was one of the first things done.

QUESTION

Can I export a single Report / Row / Column from the frx and import into MR with out loosing all the work we did to clean up 30 some reports.  Or do we loos them all - and have to start again.

Yeah, in MR through Company >> Building Block Groups you can export out all or specific building blocks to a tdbx file which can then be imported back in (used as a back up).

When you run the migration tool, it starts the MR database fresh.  I think it may even wipe out security and any folder structure setup that may have done.  I know it definitely gets rid of all building blocks.

So when you run the migration again, it will populate MR with all the converted building blocks.  You'll then go back to Company >> Building Block Groups and this time choose to import and select the tdbx file you created with the export.  It will ask you if you want to overwrite existing.  You can say yes since that's exactly what you want to do.  Then you should be looking good.

If they had alot of users set up with specific security along with folders, then it may be worth considering how long it would just take to make the same changes to the report in MR that they made in FRx since it's only one report.

Sorry Matt, but for the simple out here.

In Management Reporter as currently stands, there is a way to EXPORT the Building Blocks - all of the currently modified / fixed rows columns and reports - then do I need to wipe out the MR Data or simply let the migration tool do that ?

After migration runs, it will bring in 100 rows - but I then IMPORT the building blocks and it wipes them all out?  Not sure how that part works.

The migration tool will wipe everything out.  What you could is is export out all the building blocks besides the one that will be getting updated out of MR so that way you have everything that was converted/fixed.

Then you can run the migration and once done, import the tdbx file and overwrite with the corrections.
