RMS v2 + Hotfix 40 / Random SOM time out crashes computer

Hi folks,

I'm running RMS v2 + Hotfix 40, I have a random issue where SOM times out crashing the computer.

I do get an error message saying "Store Operations Manager Timed Out", then my Windows 7 computer just freezes forcing me to reboot it.

I'm running SQL 2012 Express edition on it and I only have 3 POS registers connected to it.

I should have taken a picture of the error message, but I didn't :(

Again, it is random and I'm not sure if you run into the same scenario.

Any pointers?

Thanks,

...Alex

    Hi Alex,

Just as an idea, if the message is "time out", maybe the problem is the Connection Timeout? In RMS SO Admin, File / Configuration, Connection Timeout textbox, increase the number of seconds from 30 or 60, to 90 to more. Also, in the OffLine tab if You have an offline database configured...

Maybe your database is big and it needs more time to get the data. Please confirm if the error occurs while performing Item list/search, or similar, where RMS SOM needs to get more data from the database.

Additional idea, you may try to use a SQL Profiler, to monitor the database and see, if possible, in what moment RMS SOM "breaks", what is the tSQL query that is provoking this...

    Post your results, please...

    BR, A.

    Hi Antonio,

The timeout is already 60 seconds, the database is 3GB and according to the store staff they were not working on the computer when the issue happened.

Does SOM log or dump all errors thrown somewhere? I can't find anything on the windows event logs.

    Hi again.

I think 60 seconds is a standard RMS value, out of the box when you create a database. That way I was suggesting to increment that value to 90 seconds or more...

If what store stuff is telling you is true, that they were not using the PC in the moment that this happens, then it must be some kind of lost of connectivity to the database or similar... You've mentioned 3 POS registers, does this happens on all of them?

Try the Profiler, at least it will show you if the error is "created" by some action in RMS SO or it's the windows loosing the database connection. No error log, but with the Profiler you may get something...

    Regards, A.
