Problem with bulk edit: Cannot massively tick a checkbox in the Contact entity

Hi all,

I am new in the community. I recently came across this rare problem. I can set the checkbox field to “unticked” but not to “ticked” though bulk edit. Bulk edit form shows a tick in the field but will not apply it under any circumstances I can think of. All you can do is to untick it! Any help would be appreciated.

Hi thanks for your reply. I don't think a screenshot will provide any insights in this case. The only thing you'll see will be the edit form and a checkbox. There isn't any error message or anything like that. Imagine a regular checkbox that you can freely tick-untick it. The issue only comes later when you realise that you cannot massively edit a checkbox. Anyway I found a work-around by replacing it with the new type of radio button. Unfortunately there aren't any resources on the web for this issue. Thanks anyway :)

You could create on-demand workflow to set the value of the checkbox in bulk this way you don't have to change the field format type from checkbox to radio buttons.

    Hi RGunlimited,

A Bulk Edit form will always have a blank form. I am not sure how you can untick a checkbox. You can always add a value but you cannot remove any information using Bulk Edit.

I tried the same in my CRM 2015 Online Trial and I can set the Checkbox to tick, but cannot make it untick.

    Here is the screen dump

All the selected Records have a tick on the custom field

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

The only way I am aware of this (which has it's own caveats) is to use the Form Assistant to set this field using the 'Clear' option with the Operator.

The caveat is that it would set as null I believe (not No).  I wonder if this is why MS decided to set this type of field as a yes/no toggle in latest versions.

Yeah, the word Edit in Bulk Edit is a bit misleading. Bulk Edit only allows to add information rather than changing anything.

If you still want to use your Checkbox, you can create an On Demand Workflow and use that to set your fields as suggested by Chitra.

    Thanks

    In addition to this:

The fields in the Bulk Edit form are set to their default values, so if the default value of your checkbox is set to 'true' (as seems to be the case in RGunlimited's case), that's what you'll be seeing. Unchecking it basically means you're adding information to a default situation, and so your changes do get saved.

Leaving it checked, or unchecking it and checking it again, doesn't change anything compared to the default situation, and with no changes there's nothing to save.
